The desert is amazing. A vast ancient salt lake bed that looks just like new fallen snow! As we traverse across the fields of white there is one constant reminder that this is not snow at all… It is 100 degrees outside and our air conditioners are working overtime to keep the motorhome from becoming an Easy Bake Oven.
The western edge of the desert comes to a close as it meets the mountains of the Nevada border. It is along this western edge that the Bonneville Salt Flats exist, A long stretch of the Salt Lake Desert that is home to Land Speed Racing each and every year. As we approach the area they are just finishing up Motorcycle racing week. If we ever come through here again we’ll make sure we time it better and get to watch some of the auto racing which takes place a little earlier in August.
Wendover, Utah and West Wendover, Nevada border the Bonneville Salt Flats and play host to the race teams and media and also provide the first opportunity for us to give up some cash to a Nevada Casino.
