The Dagostino's grew up in the neighborhood and were very involved in the Meadow Lake Skiers so it is always great to catch up and have some fun with them. We met up with all of them at the Safari Ride in Animal Kingdom. Bonnie Dagostino, Samantha and Dave Butkiewicus, Vince and Andrea Dagostino and all the kids, Laryssa, Nik, Tony, Devyn and Ava.
The Safari Ride was excellent as we weaved our way through the savannah. All of the animals were out and easy to see. It started raining while we were on the ride and even though we had a top over us we got a little damp. Then it started pouring and the top wasn't wide so we got a little wet, but just as the ride was ending the rain stopped and it was nice out again.
After the Safari Ride, we talked them into taking the walk on the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail. This is a nature walk that I highly recommend. There are birds, monkeys, and animals of all types but the highlights of this tour are the Hippo Pool and the Gorilla Habitat.
The Hippo area includes an underwater glass viewing area where you can see the Hippos swimming. It was fascinating to watch as one Hippo kept entering the pond, swimming a little, then exiting the pond. This was repeated several times with him swimming right by us as we stood at the glass wall.
We walked onward to the Gorilla Habitat. There was one gorilla in view quietly sitting facing away from us. These are amazing creatures but after a couple minutes we were ready to move onward. Just as we were ready to leave a huge male gorilla came lumbering up over the hill toward us. Following some distance behind were two female gorillas and their young babies. What an incredible sight! The babies were clinging to their moms legs (not unlike human toddlers). They all walked down to the area in front of us and sat for a while eating the vegitation nearby. It was one of those moments that make the whole trip worthwhile.
