We have had several days of overcast dreary skies and today is no different, but it's time to park the motorhome and take the Cooper out for a true Route 66 drive. Route 66 Kansas is the perfect place for the ride, a nice back country trip along route 66 and then an easy loop back to the start to find the motorhome.
Kansas has just 13 miles of Historic Route 66 passing through it. It is such a short distance that the new replacement Interstate Highway doesn't even enter the state. Kansas does make good use of its 13 mile Route 66 heritage as it passes through three towns. Galena is the home of "Tow Mater" and a restored gas station that now also features "Red" the fire truck. Riverton features a famous Route 66 landmark "Rainbow Bridge" named for its steel arch structure. This unique landmark is part of the original roadway and even though it may be hard to find, it is still open for traffic. Baxter Springs is home to a restored Phillips 66 Service Station and an inspirational downtown Main Street.
