We have been spending the last two months emptying out the Holiday Rambler, putting everything into the trailer for storage until the new DutchStar arrives. We have carefully set aside a small amount of critical items to take to Indiana with us. You know, important stuff, like clothes, hoses and toilet paper. Don’t forget the toilet paper!
Elmo and Bonnie have volunteered to go to Indiana with us and they will drive the Subaru home while we stay the week and return in the DutchStar.
We arrive at Newmar bright and early Monday morning and get introduced to our personal Newmar Technician, Roger, and he takes us to our Motorhome. After a short period of OOHs, AHHs, and WOWs, we are ready to buckle down and get a long lesson on how to run this thing. We spend hours in training and then take a break for lunch. The coach gets moved into the on-site Campground where we will stay in it for the week to make sure everything is working properly. Roger is assigned to us and is available anytime during the week for any questions or problems we might have.
We take the coach for a short shakedown cruise on Tuesday morning and Elmo and Bonnie come along for the ride. When we return, they jump in the Subaru for the long drive home while we “Camp-out” and try to make sure everything is perfect. We have a 9 page quality checklist to get through in the next few days!
Wednesday comes and the fun really begins. You see, Newmar starts work at 6AM, that’s right folks, 6AM! We need to be up, dressed, and the coach needs to be ready to be picked up at 6 so they can bring it in to the service bays. There is a customer lobby where everyone gathers, and believe me, it’s a fun and active place at 6AM.
By Thursday afternoon we have found several minor issues and Roger and his team have addressed every one of them to our satisfaction. We sign off on a completed delivery and settle down to relax for a couple days and triple check our checklist just to be sure.
Ellen and I never miss an opportunity to have guests visit us, so we were thrilled when we heard that Ellen’s cousin David and wife Susan will be in Chicago for a bridal shower this weekend and would love to stop by on the way and stay with us Thursday and Friday night. We had a great time going out for lunch and dinner and taking them on the Newmar Factory Tour. It was a great way to christen the new motorhome and test out the new guest bed. The guest bed has now been endorsed and approved by Elmo, Bonnie, David, and Susan. Perhaps you should be next!
